If there is one thing I hate is when people judge bands without understanding the songs or the people. One of my favorite bands that rank number 1# is MCR, otherwise known as My Chemical Romance. Their first album was released in 2002 and called "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" which was later shortened to just the title "Bullets". There are hundreds of bands spread all throughout the word, but MCR is the only that hits close to home to me. Later in their music career by 2006 they released their third album, "The Black Parade" one of my all time favorites except for "Danger Days". When "The Black Parade" was released, the fans unleashed the truth behind My Chemical Romance. The phrase "MCR Saves Lives." spread throughout the MCR community. The fact is this, MCR is unlike any other band I have ever listened to.
If you go to YouTube you'll see all the comments calling MCR "emos" or skinny punk ass kids making depressing music only to make money and get famous. Anyone who says that is crazy and does not understand the band nor "them" the people, the individuals of MCR. Despite popular belief, many of MCR songs have been symbols of hope for MCR fans including myself. It pisses me off when people judge a band based upon appearance not taking the time to understand the true meaning behind the band or the songs. For example, Gerard Way who is the main vocalist of the bands speaks against suicide and self-harm, yet people cling to the belief that MCR promotes just that. There dead wrong. To quote Gerard Way, just to refute those who claim he condones suicide and self-harm, "There is nothing worth hurting yourself over".
My second most favorite song by them is known as The Black Parade -- this song is known for the most labels and judgements. Oh, and I can play this entire song on the piano and ukulele :P
This song not only gave me, an outcast, a loner, a place of belonging, but inspired me to start writing music that can help influence others. I have several songs I have created on the piano and guitar which I have not shared, but will eventually. So many individuals do not understand the messages in their songs, and like I said earlier, label them at condoning self-harm, emo, dark, evil, depressed, etc. It seems as if people cannot take the time to understand the words. What I REALLY hate is when I see comments comparing my favorite band to other truly dark and bands who hate such as SlipKnot. Do people even know the definition of hard-core music? Most people don't. If you want dark, type "SlipKnot" into YouTube, watch their video and compare it to this. I listen to all music, but please make sure your labels and judgements are correct.
Most of MCR music is understandable if you've had difficult things occur in your life. For example, the song "Helena" is regarding the loss of Gerard grandmother who passed away. People fight cancer, that is reality. People die with it, that's reality too. Their music means a lot to me, and it annoys me to see others who don't understand the songs and judge them, all of them, without taking the time to see MCR for who they truly are. Their music has changed my life, that's for sure. I was privileged to see them live a few months ago and it was truly an amazing experience never to be forgotten.
As for liking them so much, here's my fan video :P Cheesy, I know.
